Why Asphere?

Aspherical elements eliminate monochromatic aberrations (e.g. spherical aberration) and improve focusing and collimating accuracy. They replace a multiple spherical element assembly, thereby combining weight reduction and a more compact design. Thus the number of back reflections is reduced, and a higher transmission is achieved.

Applications:

  • Digital Still Cameras (DSC)
  • Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras
  • Camcorders
  • Digital Projection
  • Microscopy Eyepiece
  • Binoculars
  • Illumination Systems

Traditional polishing and the state-of-the-art molding technology.

I) Molding

Shanghai Optics has identified several glasses that are suitable for precision molding due to their low transformation temperatures.

BK-7, B270, Pyrex, Borosilicate, F2 etc.

Please contact us for your desired shape. Our engineering team will be happy to support you in making your aspherical lens design moldable.

  • Surface roughness: < 1 nm rms

II) Traditional Polishing

The many challenges that optics manufacturers have had to overcome while polishing glass aspheric surfaces have left designers with little confidence that precision glass aspheres can be production volume, within specification, within budget and on time.

Over the past decade our maturing understanding of technology and process has lead to the emergence of “new tools” which make it possible for us to routinely produce a wide variety of complex glass aspheres. At Shanghai Optics we pride ourselves in the ability to produce affordable high precision glass aspheres that give our customers a competitive advantage.
